Fungai Alexander is one of two winners of the first Jobzippers scholarship 2009.

His project: “Contemporary Indigenous Youth Development Africa (CIYDA)

Contemporary Indigenous Youth Development Africa (CIYDA) is a Zimbabwean based non-profit organization working towards filling a void in youth engagement and advocacy that has for so long been left unaddressed. CIYDA works as an information hub and advocacy organization on youth development related issues within its four pillar structure namely, Business Start-up; Social & Cultural Integration; Youth Mentorship and Youth Volunteering. As part of its direct engagement efforts with youths and seeking synergies to its main activities, CIYDA also seeks to work with various partners in initiating youth developmental projects.

CIYDA recognised the need to engage various entities, both public and private sector to complement its innovative approaches to youth development in Zimbabwe and work together for a sustainable outcome and future for Zimbabwean youths. Amongst some of these to encourage CIYDA were the Ministry of Youth, Zimbabwe Youth Council and Jobzippers, a Swiss based student organization who recognised CIYDA’s efforts in applying various feasible approaches to youth development. Jobzippers funding goes a long way in ensuring youths with bankable businesses projects can get a better stepping stone as well as those seeking to make a difference through CIYDA’s volunteering and mentorship programs.

We are looking forward to follow the success of CIYDA. We will keep you posted in our scholarship blog. Applications for the 2010 scholarships will be accepted starting February 2010. Check out our website for updates.
